Who Is Your Daddy Now
Inspiration
Written by Ken Bangs

There is a popular saying in our culture, who is your daddy now? Interesting question.

The question is asked in the context of who is meeting your needs, who is showing you the ropes, who is in control of your life?

Our answer reveals in who we place our trust. “…for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6: 45 NKJ)

Those who have lived very long have already experienced the truth that in each life there will be times of need. We will face things that we are not able to overcome in the natural and we don’t know what to do or where to turn. The scripture tells that in such times, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 NKJ)

The enemy will come to us and tell us that we are all along, that we have no husband, no father and no defender. That again is a lie. Psalms 68: 5 tells us that God is, “…a father of the fatherless, a defender of widows…”

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4: 16 NKJ)

And so when troubles press in let us reject the fear and remember God’s word, “For as many as are led by the spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba, Father.” (Romans 8: 14-15 NKJ)

Now when asked the question, “Who is your daddy now?” Speak it out with boldness, “His name is Abba Father”

Forgive

Self is always the one most harmed or benefited by that which is held in the heart. That is why it is so important to forgive others AND self. We all stumble, no one lives a perfect life, year, month... Good health, well being in fact all of our future depends on our forgiveness of self, casting off the old, putting on the new and seeing what can be rather than listening to the recriminations of what could have been. Some of the sweetest words you will ever hear is I forgive...speak them over yourself and live higher...it is your destiny...

“Then, the same day at evening, beginning the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’   When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side.  Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

(John 20: 19-20 NKJ)

Take a minute to really examine this scripture.  The disciples, those who had given up everything to follow Jesus, were traumatized by the very recent crucifixion of their Lord.

Added to the sorrow of losing their beloved Jesus was the fear that they would be the next victims of the angry and very powerful Jewish leaders.  Would these leaders act to incite their followers to kill them as they had Christ in an effort to completely crush the movement?

Then in the midst of their fear; Jesus stepped in.  His first words to them were, “Peace be with you.”

In this He was making the declaration that He, the very essence of peace, was indeed in their presence and with them.  He was also saying to them, let go of the fear and trust in Me.  And then He did what Jesus will always do when we find ourselves in the need of His presence and the peace He brings; He showed Himself to them in a way that clearly removed any doubt of who He is.

We can all identify with these early disciples.  Fear comes against us all and from time to time we are all tempted just to lock ourselves away from the trials and temptations of the world.  But if God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow then we can expect Jesus to come to us with His peace, to clearly reveal Himself in our circumstance and to be with (for) us in all our times of need.

Romans 8:31 has the last word on this, “…if God is for us, who can be against us.”

He is with you so rejoice in the peace and victory that His presence brings!

Battles of the Deep

“Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business on great waters, they see the works of the Lord and His wonders in the deep…”  (Psalm 107:23-24 NKJ)

I find it interesting that the first disciples, those who first left all to follow Jesus, were men of the sea.  They wrestled night and day with net and boat in a storm tossed environment to take sustenance from where it was found  in complete reliance on the goodness of God.

Of these first called, the Apostle Andrew was first to answer.  Why Andrew?  Why not his brother Peter? (see Matthew 4: 18-20 NKJV)

The scripture is silent to this but my belief is that Andrew was the first to answer because he was anointed to preach a message that caused men to be brought into confrontation with their sin.  Thousands who had ears to hear and were willing to humble themselves and call on the name of the Lord were delivered out of their sin and saved from the consequences of their former lifestyle.

Andrew was faithful to his call carrying this message of repentance throughout

Asia Minor, Greece, present day Turkey, Russia and finally to the City of Patras in Achaia.

Here, Andrew was heard by Maximilla, wife of the ruler Aigeates.  His message that life contrary to the will and word of God is sin and that the wages of sin are always death rang true to Maximilla and for the first time she looked into the mirror of her life and came face to face with truth.  She confessed her sin, called on the name of Jesus and was delivered from death into life.

This so angered her husband that he ordered the immediate arrest of Andrew.  Andrew was nailed to an X shaped cross where he lingered for three days of torture and agony.

It was here on this cruel cross that the strength of character and dependence on God, developed during all those years of battling the sea, and carrying the gospel came forth.  Andrew withstood all the torture, refused to denounce his faith and died at the age of 80 years singing praises to his Lord Jesus.

The message Andrew carried is eternal.  When cast, it rings of the truth and brings men to the saving knowledge of Jesus.

May it be said that we have confronted our sins, been delivered from their grasp and saved from their consequences.  May it be said that we, former slaves who have been set free, are now as faithful as Andrew in the carrying and casting of the Word of our Lord.  May it ever be so.  Amen.
